Stripping Tips
JULY 1999

Before the stripping process, always do a sample area to find out how large an area you can handle at a time.
Never rush the stripping process, but at the same time, don't wait too long - 15 to 20 minutes usually is sufficient. Use a scraper to remove finish on large flat areas, and follow that with #2 steel wool. Use a 3-in-1 stripping tool for ornate areas, turned legs, etc. to remove as much finish as possible, and again follow with #2 steel wool.
For any areas that don't appear to be completely stripped, go back over them immediately.

If you have questions about the above information, submit them to our Ask the Expert section.
